Creueta del Coll Park

An empty and abandoned space - a former quarry - seemed very suitable to project a public park to serve the neighborhoods of El Coll and La Teixonera

The area subject to this project was practically empty without any special significance and without any urban order. It corresponds to a hill that had been partially occupied by the industrial exploitation of a quarry.
It was necessary to define specific areas for collective use and draw good lines of communication between the neighborhood and the park. The transformation of the large hole left by the quarry is based on two ideas: to adapt the northern slopes of the land, with a special but slight reforestation, between winding paths that marked spaces enabled for neighborhood use, and theatrically emphasize the central part, which is the deepest and the one that maintains the most topographical memories. This sector is integrated into the urban landscape with a lake on two levels which, apart from offering several recreational and sporting opportunities, is a very suitable setting for a large sculpture by Eduardo Chillida to mark the compositional center, rhetorically reflecting in the water. The park has two lines of access, from the north and from the south. An itinerary that allows you to contemplate the complex geography of the environment and directly communicate the public space with the two nearest neighborhood units, so that the activities that the design of the park itself predisposes are ensured.
