Residential Corner Building (Av. Defensores Chaves/Av. Visconde Valmôr)
The Design Concept of the building is based on a mutant facade: a skin in stone, almost metamorphoses and movable.
The building is an urban sculpture that transmits several images accordingly to its use: By night the light radiates from the apartments and by day the building is perforated by it in a different way the natural light passes through the openings in the movable panels, allowing the control of light in the interior of each apartment.
Site conditions
The building occupies a corner of a block part of an urban orthogonal grid of an urbanization built in Lisbon in the nineteenth century. The terrain is flat.
Materials
Concrete, natural stone, pine wood and glass.
Size of the site and the building
The site has an area of 532 square meters.
Lisbon Stone Block is a nine-storey building and has a construction area of 5.672 square meters (9 residential floors 22 residences) plus 4 floors below ground (parking and storage) and a commercial store on the ground floor.
Sustainable aspects of the work
The Lisbons Stone Block design has had an approached regarding sustainability and energy sufficiency, regarding all aspects such as: construction materials, HVAC (heating ventilating and air conditioning) and lighting systems.
Design and architecture sustainability: Ventilated façades in natural stone; Light color of the interior walls and façades; High standard thermal insulation; High-filter solar protection glazing; Natural lighting; Reinforced concrete structure with 0.5 m3 of BA / m2. Material selection and construction equipments: Materials used exist in sufficient quantities in nature; Lower energy use and pollutants used in manufacture and transport; All materials are reusable and recyclable; Adoption of solutions with high efficiency diffusion of pollutants; Adoption of solutions associated with low-speed pipes and central pumping speed variation, minimizing pumping stations; Efficient artificial lighting systems.
