House on Bacon Street
Located in the Bethnal Green area of East London, the site for this house was a former parking lot bounded on two sides by existing brick buildings. The intention with the form of the building was to finish or complete the residual linear element fronting Brick Lane on the south and backing onto a school playground on the east. The structure is an in-situ reinforced concrete frame clad in three different materials: glass, galvanised steel and black Alwitra. With a concrete staircase connecting all the floors, the design of a variety of different spaces will allow different types of occupation over time.
