Special Pedagogical Centre Hallein
This school in Hallein is especially designed for children. The "genus loci" is affected by the location of the building next to the Salzach River promenade, the distant beautiful view of the Alps and the adjacent housing area.
The linchpin of the interior organisation is the glazed hall, connecting the storeys for special classes with the storeys for handicapped people. The hall is also the entrance, reception and free-time area and because of the similar materials used, is part of the outside.
Because of these material similarities there is a connection between the outside play area by the Salzach, the city-influenced front area and the sports hall. The exceptional shape along with the unusual materials of the walls and roof - a covered stainless steel skin - all lead to the children's school identity.
