Reconstruction of Rietavas Manor Coach-House
In the 19th-20th centuries Rietavas was a town of key innovations: it had the first electric bulb, telephone line, first electric powerhouse of Lithuania. Nonetheless, after two World Wars Rietavas manor had perished and the small town became no different from the others in Zemaitija (Samogitia).
While reconstructing the mainor coach house - the only remaining structure of the manor we aimed to reclaim at least a part of the long forgottencharm of Rietavas.
The key concept was to respect the hictorical volume while creating astonishing interiors filled with natural lighting and a rational capacious layout.
Modern elements were also incorporated doors, windows and structural details. However, these are strictly outlined as new and clearly distincted from the old masonry, so that every observer would be able to tell what is new and what is historical.
The building contains two multifunctional halls, a library and administrative functions.
