Market

Trade is the foundation of the city. Marketplace in Mszana Dolna is an attempt to build a public space on this foundation, which will be attractive both at the time of trade, and at the time when it will not run.

Market in Mszana Dolna is one of the most important in the region. Trade tradition continues here since ancient times. It is located between the road, the historical railway and the river. Across the road the site is adjacent to the park. The uncured square before the transformation had no proper standard. The rebuilt and transformed market keeps traditional space alive in a modern way. The market is a place of work, but also a place for walking and relaxing. The design concept uses both urban and landscape values - axes of an urban composition and landscape context of Carpathians mountains with Mszanka valley.

According to the tradition, the trade fair provides a diverse typology of trading posts: the commercial shelters with the tables, booths with the tables, trade tables in the open air. The market is also equipped with chalets, water, benches and some greenery.

Large commercial areas are cover with roofs designed by the use of specific geometry. It is structurally effective but also gives an edge reminiscent of the small scale of individual trade stands. Intimate scale is preserved. The design uses traditional materials - local Carpathian sandstone, wood, recycled stone paving.
