Pääsküla Library

Our idea was to create semiotic mark and symbol which points out the library from surrounding villas and commercial landscape. The clearness of the space and the simple construction are most significant in the solution.
On the other hand the identity has to be pointed out. It derives partly from the tradition of public buildings, partly from the architect`s ability to integrate individuality and nonverbal information in the project solution.

The starting point for the library was the special site combined with the special programme. The territory forseen for the building was extremely narrow. The library is carried out in consideration of the height limitations but at the same time it is provided with a small green area and space for the individuality of the building to emerge and adapt to the surrounding environment.
